CLIL TRAINING SESSIONS FOR CLIL TEACHERS IN CATALAN SCHOOLS
Our CLIL teacher training courses are run by a professionally qualified and experienced teacher trainer who has 7 years English teaching experience and has worked as a teacher trainer since completing the Trinity Diploma in 2005. Jane is studying for a PhD in Education at the University of Nottingham, specialising in CLIL (Content Language Integrated Learning) and is currently working on a CLIL project with secondary school science teachers in Catalunya.
The aim of our CLIL training sessions is to help teachers develop their knowledge and skills in three areas:
1. CLIL methodology
Participants examine aspects of second language acquisition theory relevant to CLIL teaching.
2. CLIL lesson planning/materials creation
Participants look at the factors to be considered in creating CLIL classes, in particular the selection and adaptation of materials, and the incorporation of activities to maximise learner involvement.
3. CLIL teaching techniques
Participants look at how to incorporate EFL (English as a Foreign Language) techniques into subject teaching to aid learner understanding of instructions and explanations. Participants will learn about a wide array of teaching ideas and techniques, and get the chance to put them into practice in an end of course project where they plan and deliver a CLIL class incorporating the ideas and techniques covered on the course.
The sessions also aim to raise participants\' awareness of the importance of collaboration across English and subject departments and the use of peer observation as a tool for professional development.
